Overview

Municipal water is treated before reaching your home, but its quality can still be affected by the original water source, treatment methods, aging distribution lines, and your household plumbing.

The Standard City Water Testing Kit provides a more comprehensive analysis than the Basic kit, testing for 94 individual analytes commonly associated with municipal drinking water. In addition to metals, minerals, disinfectants, and inorganic compounds, it includes an extensive screening for volatile organic compounds, or VOCs.

Simply collect your water samples using the included containers and return them to the laboratory for professional analysis. You will receive an easy-to-read report showing your results alongside applicable national EPA drinking-water standards.

Testing Includes

20 Metals and Minerals

Evaluates common metals and minerals that may originate from the water source, municipal distribution system, or household plumbing. This broader panel includes common concerns such as lead, copper, arsenic, iron, manganese, and other metals.

Seven Inorganic Compounds

Tests for inorganic substances commonly found in drinking water, including compounds associated with natural mineral deposits, agricultural activity, and municipal water treatment.

Four Physical Water Characteristics

Evaluates important characteristics that can affect water quality, taste, plumbing, and filtration needs, including:

  • Alkalinity
  • Hardness
  • pH
  • Total dissolved solids

16 Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts

Tests for chemicals used during municipal water treatment and compounds that may form when disinfectants react with naturally occurring material in the water. This category includes:

  • Free chlorine
  • Total chlorine
  • Chloramine
  • Trihalomethanes
  • Haloacetic acids
  • Additional disinfection byproducts

47 Volatile Organic Compounds

Screens for a broad range of VOCs that may enter water through fuel, solvents, industrial activity, chemical manufacturing, waste disposal, and environmental contamination.

The complete testing package covers 94 individual analytes.

Recommended For

  • Homes connected to a municipal water supply
  • Customers seeking more comprehensive testing than the Basic kit
  • Identifying possible lead, copper, or other metals from household plumbing
  • Evaluating chlorine, chloramine, and their byproducts
  • Screening for volatile organic compounds
  • Investigating unusual tastes or odors
  • Establishing a detailed baseline before selecting a filtration system
  • Comparing water quality before and after filtration
  • Testing after moving into a new home
  • Evaluating changes in municipal water quality

Basic vs. Standard Testing

The Basic kit tests 32 common contaminants and water-quality characteristics.

The Standard kit tests 94 analytes and includes everything covered by the Basic kit, plus additional metals, minerals, and 47 volatile organic compounds. It is the better choice for customers who want a broader understanding of their municipal drinking water or have concerns about possible chemical or environmental contamination.
