Frequently Asked Questions

What’s in your water?

Water that looks and tastes fine can still carry dozens of unwanted contaminants. Even if it meets legal standards, that doesn’t mean it’s clean, healthy, or ideal for your skin, hair, or home.

At Santé for Health, we design filters that target the specific challenges of your water—whether it comes from a municipal system or a private well.

💧 City Water

Most city water is treated with disinfectants like chlorine or chloramine to kill bacteria. But those same chemicals can:

  • Irritate skin, eyes, and lungs
  • Strip hair color and moisture
  • Produce byproducts like trihalomethanes (TTHMs), linked to long-term health risks

City water can also contain:

  • Lead from old pipes
  • PFAS (forever chemicals) from industrial runoff
  • Pharmaceuticalspesticides, and VOCs

🌾 Well Water

Private wells may avoid harsh chemical disinfectants—but they come with their own risks:

  • Iron, sulfur, and manganese causing stains, odors, and scale
  • Bacteria and parasites if not properly treated
  • Nitrates from agricultural runoff
  • Sediment and heavy metals from surrounding soil and rock

No matter the source, we believe your water should support—not sabotage—your health and home. That’s why our filters use premium USA-made media to reduce or remove these contaminants for better water and better living.

What do your filters remove or reduce?

Our filters are designed to remove or significantly reduce a wide range of contaminants commonly found in both city and well water. The exact removal depends on the filter media used (like KDF, catalytic carbon, and activated carbon), but many of our systems target the following:

Disinfectants & Their Byproducts

  • Chlorine
  • Chloramine
  • Trihalomethanes (THMs) – e.g., chloroform
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) – e.g., benzene, carbon tetrachloride

Heavy Metals

  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Nickel
  • Chromium
  • Iron
  • Copper
  • Zinc

Chemical Contaminants

  • PFAS / PFOA / PFOS (“forever chemicals”)
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Pharmaceutical residues
  • Nitrates (with appropriate filter selection)
  • Industrial solvents

Natural Water Issues

  • Sediment (sand, silt, rust)
  • Hydrogen Sulfide (causes “rotten egg” smell)
  • Manganese
  • Tannins (in some specialized systems)

Our multi-stage filters combine the most effective media for broad-spectrum protection—customized for your water source and concerns. Not every system removes everything listed above, so reach out if you need help choosing the right one for your home.

What do our shower filters remove?

Our shower filters are engineered to reduce a wide range of harmful and irritating contaminants often found in tap water — especially in city systems. Here’s what they target:

  • Chlorine & Chloramine

(Harsh disinfectants that dry out skin and hair)

  • Heavy Metals

like Lead, Mercury, Nickel, Iron, Chromium

  • Hydrogen Sulfide

(Causes the “rotten egg” smell)

  • Sediment, Dirt, Rust (From aging pipes or municipal repairs)

  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

(Industrial byproducts linked to health concerns)

  • Trihalomethanes (THMs)

Including benzene, chloroform, and carbon tetrachloride

  • PFAS/PFOA

(with select filters)

  • Bad Taste and Odor

(For a fresher, cleaner shower experience)

Our filters use premium KDF, catalytic carbon, and other proven media to deliver real results — trusted by dermatologists, wellness experts, and everyday families across the U.S.

What are PFAS?

PFAS (short for Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) are a group of man-made chemicals often referred to as “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down easily in the environment or the human body.

They’ve been widely used since the 1940s in products like:

  • Non-stick cookware
  • Water-repellent clothing
  • Firefighting foam
  • Food packaging

Unfortunately, PFAS have made their way into water supplies across the country — and exposure has been linked to a range of health concerns, including hormone disruption, immune system effects, and increased risk of certain cancers.

How We Help

At Santé for Health, we offer filter solutions specifically designed to reduce PFAS and other contaminants in your water:

  • Under-Counter Filters – discreet, powerful protection for your drinking and cooking water
  • Countertop Filters – easy to install with no plumbing required
  • Whole House Filters – for full-home protection, including showers, sinks, and appliances

What is TDS, and how do I treat or test it?

TDS stands for Total Dissolved Solids, which refers to the total concentration of dissolved minerals, salts, and metals in water — including calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and other natural ions.

What a TDS meter actually measures:

TDS meters measure electrical conductivity, which correlates to the level of dissolved solids — not the presence of harmful chemicals or toxins. They do not detect chlorine, chloramine, VOCs, PFAS, or heavy metals.

So, while your TDS reading might seem high or low, it doesn’t reflect the actual safety or quality of your water.

Why TDS meters can be misleading:

  • Shower filters and most drinking water filters won’t significantly change TDS readings, because they’re not designed to remove healthy or neutral minerals.
  • These filters remove chemical contaminants, gases, and unwanted compounds — not dissolved solids.
  • As a result, TDS meters are not useful for testing shower filters or even many advanced under-sink systems.

How to actually reduce TDS:

To truly reduce TDS, you need advanced filtration processes, such as:

  • Reverse Osmosis (RO) – the most effective method for lowering TDS. It forces water through a semipermeable membrane, removing up to 95–99% of dissolved solids.
  • Distillation – evaporates and recondenses water, leaving solids behind.
  • Deionization (DI) – uses ion exchange resins to remove mineral ions, typically used in lab or industrial settings.

However, most homes don’t need to remove all TDS. In fact, water with zero TDS can taste flat and may be more corrosive. Many minerals in water are harmless or even beneficial.

Bottom Line:

If your goal is to improve water safety, taste, and performance for skin, hair, or health, focus on what your filter removes — not the TDS number. Our filters are designed to reduce real contaminants like chlorine, chloramine, PFAS, VOCs, and more — not essential minerals.

How easy is it to install your filters?

Most of our filters are designed for simple, no-fuss installation — no special tools or plumbing experience required.

  • Shower filters twist on in just minutes.
  • Countertop and under-sink systems are generally easy to install, but some customers prefer to have a plumber or handyman assist, especially for under-sink models.
  • Whole house systems usually require professional installation since they connect to your main water line.

We provide clear installation guides and videos to walk you through each step. And if you’d rather leave it to a pro, that’s totally okay too.

Note: We are not responsible for installation-related issues or damage, so if you’re unsure, we recommend using a qualified professional.

How do I replace the filters, and is it difficult?

Not at all! Replacing your filters is quick and easy — most refills take just a few minutes to swap out, and no tools are needed for most systems.

We make it even easier by:

  • Sending reminder emails when it’s time to change your filters
  • Providing simple step-by-step instructions and videos
  • Offering refill kits that match your exact system

Whether it’s a shower, countertop, or under-sink filter, you’ll have clean water again in no time — with no guesswork.
