How to Select a Shower Filter >>

Need information about home water treatment systems for well, city or municipal water and water from private water companies? Here are the facts.

Most people today drink chlorine-treated water that still contains harmful bacteria, chemicals and other contaminants. This is the same for water passing through any water treatment system, whether city or well water treatment system.

In order to capitalize on the health benefits of water, it is essential to draw from a clean source of water. Drinking impure, contaminated water is the leading cause of epidemic disease and drinking bottled water does not offer a viable solution.

A good way to ensure that you will have a good supply of clean and pure water in your home is to install a home water treatment system. There are various types of advanced water treatment systems water on the market. We will customize your home water treatment system to your needs.

Our bodies absorb 100 times more chlorine and chemicals in a 10-minute shower than from drinking the same unfiltered tap water. Without a filtration system in place we are breathing in a significant amount of chlorine, which are not only cosmetically damaging but potentially dangerous to our health as well.

The best solution is to install a water filtration system at the point the water enters your home so that your shower water – as well as the water throughout your entire home – is filtered to remove harsh chemicals. A whole house water filtration system will also help your shampoos and conditioners work better on your hair, as the products are stripped of their abilities when paired with harsh chemicals.

As chlorine is a leading cause of fatigue, showering in a filtered, chlorine-free shower will result in higher energy levels and overall greater health. Because your hair would be able to preserve its own natural moisturizing oils, hair will become softer and healthier.  Soft water is necessary for soft hair.

WELL WATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS

Well water treatment systems require KDF. We put the most KDF in our filters, 1.5 lbs of KDF 55 and 1.5 lbs of KDF 85. KDF 55 and KDF 85 Process Media can remove up to 99% of water-soluble lead, mercury, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals.

All KDF Process Media forms are effective in controlling the buildup of bacteria, algae, fungi and scale, and KDF media is the only thing that removes chloramines. We also use a sediment filter to trap large particles like sand and rust.

Then we customize! Is your water hard? Do we need to soften it? Or to use a UV light to remove bacteria and viruses? Or maybe you need a RO system.

CITY WATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS

Municipal water treatment facilities cannot always control for the outbreak of dangerous bacterial contaminants in tap water. The only way to ensure pure, contaminant-free drinking water is through the use of a point-of-use home water treatment system.

Your city home water treatment system must remove chloramines as well as all of the other toxic chemicals that can be present. Only KDF will remove the chloramines. Our most popular city water treatment system is a combination of filters that contain KDF & acid-washed coconut shell GAC Plus Fluoride and chloramine filters.

At Sante for Health we will help you customize the home water treatment system to meet your needs and give you the cleanest, clearest and safest water possible.

We receive a number of calls every day requesting information about Home Water Treatment Systems from people with wells, city or municipal water systems and people served by private water companies. They’re all looking for water treatment facts. We offer this as a little primer on water treatment systems.

Four Types of Water Treatment Systems

There are four main types of whole-house water treatment systems: soft water, reverse osmosis, carbon filter and KDF® filter systems.

Soft Water Treatment Systems

With well water, a water softener is used to remove iron and soften the water. Many people selling soft water systems neglect to inform buyers that they might need a filter system along side the water softener.

This is why we suggest well owners to have a water test done by a major test lab like National Testing Laboratories, Ltd. (phone: 800-458-3330) before they purchase a water treatment system.

Some people feel that using a water softener is bad because the high level of sodium content. Two things you should know:

  1. An alternative to salt for softening water is Potassium Chloride. This is considered as a more environmentally-friendly alternative to introducing sodium chloride into our water systems
  2. A soft water loop is designed to bypass the kitchen sink, ice maker and exterior hose bibs. When the system is plumbed properly, the sink and hose bibs remain “hard.”

Reverse Osmosis Treatment Systems

Many people who purchase a soft water system add a reverse osmosis “RO” treatment system under their sink to remove impurities from their drinking water, making it look, smell and taste better. We offer several RO water treatment systems here.

While it is possible to make your whole house RO purified, it’s very expensive and not particularly practical. The typical whole house RO unit can waste more water than it recovers.

Carbon Filter Treatment Systems

Carbon filters use granular activated carbon (GAC) to remove certain chemicals - in particular, organic chemicals - from water. GAC filters also can be used to remove chemicals that give objectionable odors or tastes to water such as hydrogen sulfide (rotten eggs odor) or chlorine.

Many people use a PUR® or Britta® charcoal filters that can make your water look and smell good, but the filters need changing often and do not remove the impurities - such as iron and chemicals - that other water treatment systems can remove.

GAC is an effective de-chlorinating medium, but not in shower filters. Many early manufacturers thought GAC properties were directly transferrable to shower filter applications, but that’s been proven false.

KDF® Filter Treatment System

We recommend using a system for drinking water that uses a KDF® filter. We offer one- two and three-filter systems in 10 inch and 20 inch sizes. KDF process media supplement or replaces existing technologies to dramatically extend system life, reduce heavy metals, microorganisms, scale, lower total cost, and decrease maintenance.

Hospitals, restaurants, municipal water treatment facilities and homes rely on KDF process media to safely reduce or remove chlorine, iron, hydrogen sulfide, heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, and bacteria from their water. Patented KDF process media are 100 percent recyclable and contain no chemical additives.

KDF 55 Medium was designed specifically for removing or reducing chlorine and water-soluble heavy metals. It controls scale, bacteria and algae, even in hot water. KDF 85 Medium removes or reduces iron and hydrogen sulfide from municipal or other water supplies. Also controls scale, bacteria and algae.
