Overview

Municipal water is treated and monitored before it reaches your home, but its quality can still be affected by the original water source, treatment methods, distribution lines, nearby land use, and your household plumbing.

The Deluxe City Water Testing Kit provides an extensive analysis of 115 individual analytes commonly associated with municipal drinking water. It includes everything covered by the Standard kit, plus testing for 20 pesticides, herbicides, and PCBs that may enter surface-water supplies through agricultural, residential, or industrial runoff.

Simply collect your samples using the included containers and send them to the laboratory for professional analysis. You will receive a detailed report showing your results alongside applicable national EPA drinking-water standards.

Testing Includes

20 Metals and Minerals

Evaluates metals and minerals that may originate from the water source, municipal distribution system, treatment process, or household plumbing. This category includes common concerns such as lead, copper, arsenic, iron, manganese, and other metals.

Seven Inorganic Compounds

Tests for inorganic substances that may occur naturally or enter the water through water treatment, agricultural activity, road runoff, and environmental contamination.

Four Physical Water Characteristics

Evaluates important characteristics that can affect taste, plumbing, water treatment, and filtration needs, including:

  • Alkalinity
  • Hardness
  • pH
  • Total dissolved solids

16 Disinfectants and Disinfection Byproducts

Tests for disinfectants used during municipal water treatment and byproducts that can form when those disinfectants react with naturally occurring organic material.

This category includes:

  • Free chlorine
  • Total chlorine
  • Chloramine
  • Trihalomethanes
  • Haloacetic acids
  • Additional disinfection byproducts

47 Volatile Organic Compounds

Screens for a broad range of VOCs that may enter water through fuel, solvents, industrial activity, chemical manufacturing, waste disposal, or environmental contamination.

20 Pesticides, Herbicides, and PCBs

Tests for additional chemical contaminants that may enter surface-water sources through agricultural, residential, or industrial runoff. This expanded category is the primary difference between the Standard and Deluxe kits.

Recommended For

  • Homes connected to a municipal water supply
  • Customers seeking the most comprehensive city-water test available in this collection
  • Homes supplied by surface-water sources
  • Properties near agricultural, industrial, or heavily developed areas
  • Screening for pesticides, herbicides, or PCBs
  • Identifying potential lead, copper, or other metals from household plumbing
  • Evaluating chlorine, chloramine, and their byproducts
  • Screening for volatile organic compounds
  • Investigating unusual tastes, odors, or changes in water quality
  • Establishing a detailed baseline before selecting a filtration system
  • Comparing water quality before and after filtration
  • Testing after moving into a new home

Standard vs. Deluxe Testing

The Standard kit tests 94 contaminants and water-quality characteristics, including metals, minerals, disinfectants, disinfection byproducts, and 47 volatile organic compounds.

The Deluxe kit tests 115 analytes and adds a panel of 20 pesticides, herbicides, and PCBs. It is the better option for customers who want the broadest possible evaluation of their municipal drinking water or are concerned about runoff entering their local water source.
