What is the difference between the City Water and Well Water versions?
The City Water version is designed for municipal water and targets chlorine, chloramines, fluoride, disinfection byproducts, heavy metals, VOCs, and other common city water contaminants. It uses a blend of KDF-55, KDF-85, SIR-900, and catalytic carbon.
The Well Water version is designed for homes on private well water or homes with existing whole house treatment. It uses KDF-55 to help reduce chlorine, heavy metals, scale, and other common well water concerns.
How do I know which configuration I need?
Customers using municipally treated water should generally select the City configuration. Customers using private well water should select the Well configuration. Because water quality varies by location, testing your water is the best way to identify your specific filtration needs.
What contaminants does the Ultimate Dual reduce?

Yes, the Ultimate Dual City Water version includes SIR-900 filtration media, which is used for fluoride reduction (up to 90%).
Will it reduce water pressure?
The Ultimate Dual is designed to maintain strong shower pressure when installed correctly. A noticeable pressure reduction may indicate restricted flow, improper installation, clogged media, or that the cartridges are due for replacement.
How long do the cartridges last?
Under typical conditions, the cartridges last approximately 9–12 months. Lifespan may be shorter in homes with high contaminant levels, sediment, iron, or heavy shower usage.
Why is one cartridge heavier than the other?
This difference is intentional. The heavier cartridge contains dense, coarse-grain KDF 55, while the lighter cartridge contains finer-grain KDF 85 blended with SIR-900 and catalytic carbon.
Because these filtration media have different compositions, grain sizes, and densities, the cartridges are not designed to weigh the same. Each cartridge serves a different filtration purpose, allowing the Ultimate Dual to provide broader contaminant reduction.
Can I use it with hot water?
Yes. The system is designed for normal shower temperatures. For best media performance and longevity, we recommend keeping the water temperature at or below 140°F.
Will it soften my water?
The Ultimate Dual is not a traditional water softener and does not remove hardness minerals in the same way as an ion-exchange softening system. However, the filtration media may help reduce scale formation and improve how the water feels.

Will it fit my shower?
The Ultimate Dual is designed for standard U.S. 1/2" shower connections. Certain specialty, rainfall, recessed, or proprietary showerhead designs may require an adapter or alternative installation method.
Can I install it myself?
Yes. The system is designed for straightforward installation and typically does not require a plumber. Installation difficulty may vary with nonstandard shower configurations.
Why is my filter leaking after installation?
Leaks are most often caused by missing or incorrectly positioned washers, insufficient plumber’s tape, loose connections, or overtightening. Follow the included installation instructions carefully and contact us if assistance is needed.
How much plumber’s tape should I use?
Wrap plumber’s tape clockwise around the shower-arm threads two to three times before attaching the system.
Do I need to flush the cartridges before use?
After installation, run the shower for one to two minutes to flush out any loose media fines that may be present from shipping.
